MTP Aftercare: Bleeding, Pain & Recovery Timeline
After MTP, bleeding is often heavier than a period for a short time, with cramping that eases over days. Follow your clinic’s aftercare sheet, avoid intercourse until cleared, and know the warning signs that need urgent care.
Recovery expectations differ slightly between medical and surgical MTP, but the safety principles are the same. This overview is not a substitute for professional medical advice — follow the instructions given at your visit.
Typical recovery themes
- Bleeding and spotting that tapers over days to a couple of weeks
- Cramping managed with prescribed or recommended pain relief
- Rest on the first day; light activity as you feel able
- Follow-up to confirm completion
Warning signs
Heavy soaking, severe pain, fever, fainting, or foul discharge need urgent review. One-sided pain with a positive test before MTP may signal ectopic pregnancy — emergency care first.
Emotional aftercare
Mixed emotions are common. Non-judgemental counselling is available at Kokapet and Gachibowli with Dr. Avani Reddy.
